What Is This Sworcery? Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP Updated For The Retina iPad
April 26, 2012
OMG! That was basically my reaction when I checked the Updates page in my iPad's App Store app and saw that an update to one of the best apps ever made in the history of the universe is available. No, I am not merely exaggerating. Indeed, when I'm talking about the marvelous Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP from Capybara Games, it's all but impossible to overstate my sentiments about it.
Today, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, or #sworcery for short, has finally been updated to sport graphics optimized for the new iPad's Retina display. Sweet! Being a visually arresting point and click adventure game, it's only fitting that #sworcery get a Retina iPad update. Even if it makes extensive use of pixel artwork, the graphic enhancement is evident. Take it from the game's developer: "This update will fancy up them hard-edged pixel sprites real nice, offering initiated participants a new way to see just what in the heck #sworcery is all about." And as a bonus to #sworcery practitioners both old and new, the developer has also posted a gorgeous Dark Moon Rock Show wallpaper that looks great — where else? — on the new iPad. Click through the image below to download it at full resolution.
The game's appeal lies not only on its visuals, though, since audio also plays a key role in its proceedings. It actually features track after track of original music by Canadian singer-songwriter Jim Guthrie, so #sworcery is best enjoyed with your headphones on.
The newly Retina iPad-optimized Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is a universal app available in the App Store for $4.99. An iPhone-only version called Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP Micro is also available for $2.99.
