Fruit Ninja Says 'Hiyaaa!' To New Blades, Backgrounds And More
September 27, 2012
Whereas Doodle Jump has recently gotten a new ninja theme, everyone's longtime favorite ninja game has just undergone a gameplay-enhancing upgrade. I'm talking, of course, about Fruit Ninja.
The popular fruit slicing game has just received its umpteenth update and with it comes a bushelful of free content.
This latest update to Fruit Ninja is quite similar to the previous update to its movie tie-in spinoff, Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots. Like that update, this one brings new blades and new backgrounds.
All of these new items may be unlocked using in-game currency called Starfruit. But you may also acquire two of these by completing certain challenges.
The new Lightning Bolt blade ("Who said lightning never strikes twice?") and the new Storm Castle background ("Annihilate fruit under the cover of darkness!") require purchases using Starfruit.
But the new Calligraphy Brush blade ("The pen is mightier than the sword!") may also be unlocked by scoring 50 in classic mode without hitting the same fruit twice in a row.
As for the new Parchment background ("Leave your mark with this ancient canvas!"), you must get 20 different bonuses at the end of arcade mode in order to get it.
The new update also includes support for posting high scores on Twitter. Regrettably, though, it doesn't yet include optimization for the taller, or, in the case of the landscape-oriented Fruit Ninja, "wider" screen of the new iPhone 5.
Fruit Ninja for iPhone and Fruit Ninja HD for iPad are available in the App Store for $0.99 and $2.99, respectively. Download now or update for free and start slicing your way through the game's latest serving of juicy content.
