Get Ready For Rover 2.0, The Next Generation App-Controlled Wireless Spy Tank

September 11, 2012
The Rover spy tank, an app-controlled toy similar to the AR.Drone, was announced nearly a year ago. Not only does the remote controlled ground vehicle feature a surveillance-style video system like Parrot's quadricopter, it has also been upgraded to 2.0 with improved capabilities.
“The Rover 2.0 is the quintessential Brookstone designed and developed product,” said Stephen Bebis, president and CEO of Brookstone. “We already carry the best in app-controlled products and utilized our knowledge to create an award-winning Rover device. Our design team took the award-winning 1.0 version and challenged themselves to make it even more exciting with new features. The Rover 2.0 is debuting just in time for holiday season and is a must-have gift for any aspiring agent.”
Beneath the black and green exterior, which is definitely a much classier and stealth-like appearance, the Rover 2.0 has a few significant component upgrades. For starters, the on-board camera has an even wider angle lens and motorized angle adjustment. In regard to audio, there is the addition of a speaker, which can be used to establish 2-way communication with your targets or a means to startle them. Looking beyond hardware upgrades, the next generation Rover also features enhancements to the software. Along with the aforementioned remote camera angle control and the previously implemented image capture functions, the Rover 2.0 iOS app includes an off and on toggle for the tank's lights, video recording, and media sharing capabilities. Despite all of those great improvements, a few items have carried over. The Rover 2.0 still utilizes the convenience of an internally created Wi-Fi network for connectivity that provides an operating range of up to 200 feet, an infrared-assisted night vision mode, G-Drive tilt or touch control, and route recording. The Rover 2.0 iOS-controlled spy tank is available for pre-order now and will be in-stock beginning next month for $149.99, plus applicable taxes and shipping fees. The Rover 2.0 Wireless Spy Tank by Brookstone app is compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 3.0, and available in the App Store as a free download. The original Rover is being sold at the discounted price of $99.99, plus applicable taxes and shipping fees. [gallery link="file" columns="4"]
