Highly Rated Writing App iA Writer Gets Enhanced UI, New iCloud Engine And More

February 19, 2013
The effectively simple and simply effective iA Writer has just received another major update. As a longtime fan of iA Writer, I'm naturally delighted of its new update. Arriving a couple of months after the last major update, this one delivers the following improvements to the popular iOS writing app:
  • Enhanced look and feel
  • New iCloud engine and UI
  • New accessory keyboard for iPad
  • Improved text editing
  • Improved file browser
  • Improved conflict resolution
  • Automatic encoding conversion
  • Scrolling improvements
  • Optimized landscape mode for iPad
If you can't see the video embedded above, please click here. In my view, iA Writer has long been an especially elegant and gorgeous app. But its new look and feel only make it more so. All of the other improvements are much appreciated, of course. But it's the new iCloud engine that appears to be most significant, as its integration ultimately addresses a number of known issues. Commenting on the app's new iCloud engine in particular, the eponymous Information Architects has tweeted that on newer devices, "all iCloud files are automatically downloaded and cached." The developer adds that the app is now "more transparent for iCloud issues." "A bunch of edge cases are handled more elegantly, syncing is much faster, and oh boy the sync conflict resolution is better," concludes the developer. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 5.0 or later, the new version of iA Writer is available now in the App Store as a free update or as a new $0.99 universal download.
