Pirate Music Meets Match-Three RPG In Scurvy Scallywags, Coming Soon

May 17, 2013
Gharr, me hearties, good news! Ron Gilbert, former designer at Double Fine Productions (developer of Middle Manager of Justice and more) has an all new project set to hit the App Store in the coming months. Called Scurvy Scallywags in The Voyage to Discover the Ultimate Sea Shanty, the forthcoming all-singing, all-dancing match-three RPG-infused application looks interesting, and has just spawned its first video trailer. As TouchArcade reports:
Looking to differentiate itself from the glut of matching games on the App Store, Scurvy Scallywags uses an interesting mechanic where after a match is made the game board collapses in the direction of the match to fill in gaps, rather than just dropping all the blocks downwards like most matching games. Seems like a small change but a potentially significant one, and you can tell that Scurvy Scallywags has a ton of personality in its first official trailer.
Besides offering a reinvented match-three format, players of the game can enjoy singing along to countless scurvy sea shanties, several of which are previewed in the below trailer. At the moment, no release date has been announced for the application, though its developer does note that Scurvy Scallywags is "coming soon." We'll let you know once the application sails into the App Store.
