This Week In Accessories: Power To The People

May 17, 2013
Welcome back to This Week in Accessories. After Apple made the switch to the Lightning connector for iOS devices, accessory manufacturers needed time to catch up with compatible charging solutions. This week, we’re featuring two new Lightning-enabled power accessories, a beautiful Bluetooth speaker, and more.

Bluelounge MiniDock with Lightning Connector

Bluelounge’s original MiniDock did a nice job of adding some extra function to Apple’s stock USB adapters. And the company has now introduced a version with a built-in Lightning connector for the iPhone 5 and fifth-generation iPod touch. The dock plugs into the adapter and provides a way to charge your device securely in a vertical position. To help find that perfect fit with a case, bluelounge also includes two different optional spacers that fill the gap between the back of the handset and the MiniDock. The dock retails for $39.95 and can be purchased directly through bluelounge.

Mophie Juice Pack Plus for the iPhone 5

Mophie has just introduced a third battery case for the iPhone 5. The Juice Pack Plus boasts a 2,100 mAH battery, which brings 120 percent more battery power to the handset. That translates into 10 more talk hours on 3G networks and 12 extra hours of Internet use on a Wi-Fi connection. A pass-through port allows users to charge an iPhone 5 and the Juice Pack Plus with the included micro USB cable. An LED indicator will also tell users how full the battery is with the push of a button. To help protect the iPhone 5 from the impact of falls, the case has a shockproof band and anti-scratch guides. Available in flat black, glossy white, and a Project (RED) version, the case is $119.95 and can be purchased on mophie’s site.

Model S Wireless Speaker from Geneva

Setting itself apart with a beautiful design, Geneva’s new Model S Wireless Speaker boasts patented true stereo technology and a wide frequency range all in a tabletop-sized system. Using wireless connectivity, users can stream music from any iOS device or any other Bluetooth-enabled device. Along with a built-in FM radio and digital alarm clock, users can control the speaker with the backlit and touch-sensitive controls. Retailing for $299.95, the Model S Wireless Speaker is available in a black, red, or white finish. It can be ordered on Geneva’s site now.

Alexis Mabille Bowtie Case from Case Scenario

French designer Alexis Mabille has teamed with Case Scenario to create a fun and whimsical case option for the iPhone 5. The bowtie case is a hard, one-piece case that allows access to all ports and the camera. Available in a white or blue, the stylish case is $35 on Maison 24’s site.
