Vevo TV could be launched on Apple TV “as soon as this week.”
That’s according to The Wall Street Journal, which reports that the popular Vevo music video and entertainment platform has secured deals with Apple and Samsung for its TV offering:
Vevo, a joint venture between Sony Corp.’s Sony Music Entertainment and Vivendi SA’s Universal Music Group, has signed deals to deliver on-demand music videos—plus a new channel of original, 24-hour-a-day programming—via Apple TV set-top boxes and Samsung television sets.
But while the Vevo app for Apple TV could be released as early as this week, the Vevo app for Samsung TVs is said to be still a few weeks away from being launched.
Vevo’s Apple TV app is expected to be largely similar in content to Vevo TV. Launched last March on Vevo’s supported platforms, including iOS through Vevo for iPhone and Vevo HD for iPad, Vevo TV is an MTV-like channel that streams a 24/7 mix of music videos, live performances, and original programming.
Just a week ago, Vevo for iPhone and Vevo HD for iPad were both updated with AirPlay support for Vevo TV.
