'Netflix For Books' Service Oyster Adds Support For Highlights And Notes On iOS

January 17, 2014
The official iOS app of Oyster has just been updated with a much-requested pair of features. Dubbed the “Netflix for books,” Oyster offers unlimited access to its huge catalog of e-books, including popular fiction and nonfiction titles, for just $9.95 per month. These e-books are available for reading via the official Oyster app for iOS 7 devices. As mentioned, the Oyster app has just been updated with a couple of features. These are support for highlights and support for notes, bringing Oyster on par with most other e-reading apps in this respect. "We love writing in the margins and with this update, we’ve made that possible on Oyster," says the Oyster team in a new blog post. "You can now highlight your favorite passages while reading and add notes to jot down your thoughts. All of your notes and highlights are private, but you can also share them with friends over email, text, Facebook, or Twitter." Now, you can tap and drag over text to create a highlight and tap on any highlight to add a note (with full iOS keyboard support, including the all-important emoji). Also including bug fixes and performance improvements, the new version of Oyster is available now in the App Store for free. The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later. Released last September for iPhone and iPod touch, the app was updated in October with iPad support along with other major enhancements.
