Glorkian Warrior, The Mario-Meets-Moon Patrol iOS Game, Is Coming Next Week

March 8, 2014

Glorkian Warrior: The Trials of Glork, an iOS app described by its developer as “Mario-meets-Moon Patrol,” is set to launch in the App Store next week, on March 13. Once available, iOS gamers will be able to enjoy a multi-genre experience with Glorkian Warrior, which should be optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

The game first started life as a Kickstarter project back in 2010, and at the time backers were promised “good old-fashioned entertainment like your great grandpa used to enjoy.” Though we’re not sure how much Glorkian Warrior is going to retail for in the App Store (backers of the original project are promised a free copy of the game), creators Pixeljam and James Kochalka explain:

It’s a combination of many styles and genres. It’s a platformer like Mario or Metroid. It’s a shooter like Galaga or Moon Patrol. Some parts are fast paced like Canabalt or Dino Run. Some parts are in zero or inverted gravity! Some parts are hand drawn by James, and some parts are pixel-style like previous Pixeljam Games. There is a lot of narrative and conversation between characters. There are fun things to do and discover! It’s a love child of many different genres, styles and ideas.

Pixeljam, as you may remember, is also the developer behind Dinorun; Kochalka is a comic book artist who’s taking care of Glorkain Warrior’s artwork, dialogue, and design. He’ll also be releasing a tie-in comic book called “The Glorkian Warrior Delivers a Pizza,” which is available to preorder now at Amazon.

Though a release of Q1 2014 had previously been confirmed by the creators of Glorkian Warrior, TouchArcade now notes that the app has managed to get past the App Store approval team and is scheduled for a March 13 release. We’ll let you know once Glorkian Warrior: The Trials of Glork surfaces in the App Store.

In the meantime, we’ve embedded a teaser trailer of the game below for your viewing pleasure.
