Belkin’s WeMo line now has some competition. D-Link has just announced its new Wi-Fi Smart Plug that will allow iPhone users to control their electrical outlets remotely with a companion iOS app.
The device itself needs to be connected to an existing Wi-Fi network. There is no need for any additional hubs to be installed. After that, users need to download the free Smart Plug app on the App Store.
Here’s a quick promo video about the smart plug. Click here if you can’t see it.
With the app, users can create on/off schedules for their connected devices, which could definitely be helpful for things like an air conditioner or lighting system.
Buyers can also monitor the energy usage of their connected devices.
A unique feature is the plug’s built-in thermal sensor. If the plug overheats at any time, it will automatically shut off the connected device.
The Wi-Fi Smart Plug retails for $49.99 and can be ordered now directly from D-Link’s site.
