Another report says that production on Apple’s ‘iWatch’ has been delayed
July 29, 2014
For the second time this week, a report from the Far East says that production on Apple’s so-called “iWatch” has been delayed.
According to Taiwanese newspaper UDN (via G for Games), TPK has recently downgraded the company’s financial expectations for the third quarter of the year. The Apple supplier now expects a considerable increase in profits throughout Q4 2014, not in Q3 2014 as once believed. This suggests the iWatch won’t enter mass production until late September or early October.
Taiwan-based TPK and Japan-based Nissha Printing have long been rumored to be providing the silver nanowire touchscreen technology found on Apple’s first wearable device.
Today’s report doesn’t mention a reason for the iWatch production delay. On Monday, another Taiwanese publication relaying information from “inside sources from Apple’s supply chain,” said that the iWatch and long rumored 5.5-inch “iPhone 6” wouldn’t be released until December.
As Brent Dirks noted, “a December release date for the wearable device and phablet would be unusual. Apple usually likes to have as much supply as possible of new products for the holiday shopping season. The late release date could also mean massive shortages of both devices for quite some time.”
Like many, I really want to see Apple's iWatch. However, I'd rather see the device delayed if the added time means Apple can get it right.
