Blockchain unchained: popular Bitcoin wallet app re-enters the App Store
July 29, 2014
The popular Bitcoin wallet app Blockchain has just made its comeback on the App Store, as reported by CoinDesk (via MacRumors).
Back in February, Blockchain, which was then the only iOS app to allow users to make transactions using Bitcoin, was booted by Apple out of the App Store "due to an unresolved issue." Apparently, though, Apple was cracking down on Bitcoin wallet apps over their use of a currency of dubious legitimacy.
But early last month, Apple had a change of heart and updated its guidelines to allow for "approved" virtual currency transactions in third-party iOS apps. This had led to the approval and re-entry into the App Store of iOS apps that deal in Bitcoin, including Coin Pocket, Coinbase, and now, Blockchain.
The newly reinstated Blockchain app features a major redesign and support for Bitcoin wallet exchanges and Bitcoin purchases at both online and brick-and-mortar merchants.
Blockchain CEO Nicolas Cary told CoinDesk, "Working with Apple has been quick and easy, and we really appreciate their thoughtful guidance — it’s a partnership we really value."
Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 6.1 or later, Blockchain is available (again) on the App Store for free.
