Madden NFL Mobile soft lands on the App Store

August 12, 2014

Madden NFL Mobile is now available to download in the Canadian App Store. The soft launch comes two weeks before the free-to-play game arrives worldwide on Aug. 26.

First announced by EA earlier this week, Madden NFL Mobile allows football fans to build a super team composed of some of the league’s best players. Gamers can then take their team into multiplayer matchups against friends, recreate an entire NFL season, or take on a live event.

Like previous versions, Madden NFL Mobile is a freemium game. In other words, it's loaded with in-app purchases. Like Brent Dirks, I find this disappointing.

Game Mob calls the game "a major upgrade from the previous installment with a nice makeover."

Additionally, they note:

The visuals are much improved from the menu styles all the way to the audience and field. The sound quality of the game is better as well, noticeably more responsive to the actions that take place. The main gameplay improve are the controls, which are set with an analog stick for player movement, a right button for tricks and tackles, and tap options to pass. Madden 25 relied heavily on tapping for movement and it felt as if you were playing Flappy Bird on a football field.

If you live in Canada, you can download Madden NFL Mobile by following this link. Everyone else will need to wait two more weeks.

The 2014 NFL season begins on Thursday, Sept. 4 when the world champion Seattle Seahawks host the Green Bay Packers.
