Google News & Weather launches on the App Store

October 7, 2014

Google is continuing to expand its presence on iOS devices. The company today soft launched Google News & Weather in a number of App Stores around the world.

As the name suggests, the app is designed to give a personalized view of headlines stories, local news, and weather.

The app provides coverage from more than 65,000 publications. Users can swipe to access categories like Top Stories and Technology.

You can also adjust the layout with any of 60 country-specific editions and other personalized news sections, including Hollywood, NASA, and Fashion.

Tapping a story brings up a deeper selection of viewpoints, in-depth articles, opinions, and local perspectives.

Google News & Weather is a universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It is free. We’ll let you know when the app receives a wider rollout and is available in the United States.

Two other Google apps – Chrome and YouTube – also recently received minor updates. Chrome now offers “better” support for the iPhone 6, and users can download and open files in Google Drive.

Version 2.10.3 of YouTube fixes the “Add to Playlist” scrolling problem along with a few other minor bugs.
