Opera Mini Web browser updated with support for share extensions in iOS 8

December 16, 2014

Opera Mini has just received another notable update on iOS.

The latest update to the popular mobile Web browser developed by Opera is focused on improving the app’s extensibility in iOS 8.

First and foremost, it adds support for an extension for opening links in Opera Mini from other apps, even including Safari and other browsers. As noted by the Opera team, this is especially helpful if you want to save on mobile browsing data using Opera Mini’s data compression modes.

There’s the full-on Opera Mini mode, which compresses data to as little as 10 percent of the original data size. And there’s also the Opera Turbo mode, which performs some compression while maintaining website compatibility and features the video optimization technology introduced in Opera Mini 9.0 last month.

The latest update to Opera Mini, which brings the app to version 9.1, also adds support for sharing links and content right from the context menu, easily searching for clipboard content, and one-tap opening of links stored in clipboard.

Moreover, it brings various UI fixes and performance improvements.

Opera Mini 9.1 is available now on the App Store for free. It’s compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 7.0 or later, and already optimized for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

In addition to Opera Mini, Opera offers Opera Coast, a universal iOS Web browser with a focus on gestures and animations.
