All hail the mayor in a new Swarm by Foursquare update

What’s old is new again, at least in the Swarm by Foursquare app. With a recent update to version 2.5, the popular check-in app has now revived the mayor feature.

When you check-in to a location more than anyone else, you’ll be named the mayor. But the crown can easily be stolen, so you’ll need to be sharp to keep the title.

Mayors are back!

Also in the update, users can share to Facebook or Twitter when they earn a crown, unlock a sticker, and more.

Swarm by Foursquare is designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and can be downloaded now on the App Store for free. Instead of focusing on check-ins and other social elements, the Foursquare app itself is now a Yelp competitor and will let you search for nearby restaurants, shops, and more.

It’s definitely interesting to see Foursquare cave to popular pressure and once again add in the mayor option that was originally removed when Swarm landed a little more than a year ago. Will you be using the app now that you can win the coveted title again?
