While everyone in the United States was celebrating the Independence Day holiday over the weekend, Minecraft fans received a big surprise with the unveiling of the first trailer for the long-awaited Minecraft: Story Mode game.

Mojang and Telltale released the trailer and more information about the game at a Minecraft conference in London.

Without further ado, here’s the complete trailer. Click here if you can’t see it.

In the game’s first season, you will be controlling protagonist Jesse, voiced by actor Patton Oswalt. Other voice actors include Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens

Here’s more about the game from a Telltale blog post:

Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order are the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong… something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.

First announced late last year, the first part Minecraft: Story Edition will arrive on the App Store and a number of other platforms later this year. All told, the game will be a five-part episodic series. It will be completely separate from the hugely popular Minecraft: Pocket Edition, which can be downloaded now for $6.99.

Like other titles from Telltale, including the spectacular Walking Dead: The Game, the decisions you make will affect how the game plays out.

We’ll definitely keep you up to date regarding any more information about the game. While I’m not a big Minecraft fan in general, Story Edition looks like another winner from Telltale and a perfect fit for an episodic structure.
