In a Declining Market, Apple iPad Remains No. 1
Apple iPad tablet sales worldwide remain above everyone else in the market. Unfortunately, it remains the leader in a declining market overall.
According to new data from Strategy Analytics, iPad lead with 13.1 million units sold between October and December. Samsung was second with shipments of 8.1 million units.
Lenovo (4.2 million), Huawai (3.7 million), and Amazon (3.4 million) rounded out the top five.
One year ago, iPad sales totaled 16.12 million units. At the same time, Samsung shipped 9 million units. The current numbers represent losses of 19 percent and 10 percent year over year, respectively.
During the final quarter of 2016, 63.5 million tablets were shipped, down from 69.5 million units the year before, which represents a loss year over year loss of 9 percent.
Apple iPad sales have been steadily falling since 2014. The latest numbers represent the third straight decline for the tablet during the all-important holiday quarter and 12th decline in a row overall.
Since reaching record iPad sales of 26.04 million units during Apple’s first fiscal quarter of 2014, sales dropped to 21.24 million units during the first fiscal quarter of 2015. One year later, they fell again to 16.12 million units.
The 2017 iPad lineup could be announced as early as next month.
