The Creator of The Walking Dead Can't Wait for Season 3 of Telltale's Game
Once season three of Telltale's The Walking Dead launches, players will, for the first time, be able to enjoy a storyline that runs alongside the timeline of the current comic books in the franchise. And for this reason, the man behind The Walking Dead can't wait for the release of the next game in Telltale's series.
The news comes in an interview with Robert Kirkman (via TouchArcade), in which the creator of The Walking Dead franchise explained that there's one major reason why he can't wait for the third season in Telltale's game series. “Kirkman talked about how excited he is for season three because for the first time, a Telltale The Walking Dead game will have a timeline running almost concurrently with the timeline of the comics.”
Kirkman added that the new books in The Walking Dead series are based around the same time frame that season three concentrates on. As TouchArcade adds, Kirkman added that Clementine is indeed in season three, but he didn't confirm whether or not she's the protagonist of the next game.
I'm sure this is good news for fans of the comics and of Telltale's version of the universe. It's also a clever way on behalf of Kirkman and Telltale of bringing those two worlds much closer than in previous games. The Walking Dead: Michonne miniseries filled in a gap in the comics' storyline, so that was already a move to bring the comics and the Telltale worlds together, and Season 3 is going to take another step towards that direction.
Telltale is also reportedly investigating a means of importing save data from previous games into its The Walking Dead apps, in order to help with continuity for players who've shaped their own plotlines through the decisions they make. This would be a great addition to the game, and something I really hope we see launch with season three.
The first episode in The Walking Dead Season 3 is expected to launch at some point this year; of course, we'll keep you posted with further news as we receive it.
