インチアップ、インチダウンや、タイヤの幅を変更する際、問題になるのはタイヤ外径の計算です。
しかも、タイヤサイズの表示は、幅がcm、扁平率が%、ホイールサイズがインチと単位がまちまちです。例えば、205/55R16 という表示は、タイヤの断面幅が205cm、扁平率（断面高さ÷断面幅）が55%、ホイールサイズが16インチということを表します。
これらの値からタイヤの外径は、
1. タイヤの断面高さを求める。(断面幅×扁平率）
2. ホイールサイズ（直径）を cmに変換する
3. はホイールサイズにタイヤの断面高さを二倍（両側）したものを加えるという手順で求められます。
