天壇本著宗教對社會關懷的宗旨，以其累積的豐富資源，積極從事社會公益事業。諸如經營「天壇老人養護中心」(養護中心網址)，提供老人養護照顧服務及推動各項老人福利服務；此外更秉持對社會的回饋，於民國九十六年成立「財團法人臺南市台灣首廟天壇玉皇上帝社會福利慈善事業基金會」發放急難救助金、清寒獎助學金、營養午餐補助金及開辦免費天壇學苑供民眾進修。
