《金瓶梅》是明代“四大奇书”之首。全书100回，人物200多个，结构大而不乱，200多个人物中，潘金莲、西门庆、陈经济、吴月娘都很有个性，里面运用了大量方言、歇后语、谚语、词曲，不少词曲用的颇为精妙，又富含杂学知识。书中宣扬了因果报应之说，由于里面淫词秽语很多，因此被列为禁书。尽管如此它仍不失为一本文学著作。
