Bèt an Kreyòl (Animals in Creole) was developed by A Connected Planet (ACP) Foundation for use in Haiti in ACP's Tablet Implementation Program. Virtually no applications exist in Haitian Creole. So ACP started developing its own applications.
The application is very simple. Pictures of animals are displayed with the animals name spelled out below. When the spelling is touched the animal’s name is played aloud. The app also includes a random test section where the user can test their memory of the correct answer.
ACP’s focus is on education apps for young Haitian children. The graphics depict culturally relevant items for the rural areas that we work in. Look for ACP’s other applications about the alphabet, numbers, colors & shapes, and fruits & vegetables. ACP has also partnered with the Matenwa Community Learning Center to turn their Haitian Creole Mother Tongue Books into applications.
ACP’s staff and volunteers include professionals from the Academic, Education, Computer Science, Business, Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Speech Language Pathology sectors.
