ALPA DriveAbout is a world-first learner licensing app, featuring highly engaging animated content with a built-in test. ALPA DriveAbout will take you on a five-part journey to learn everything you need to know to pass the Learner Permit test (Ls test) in South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
"The ALPA DriveAbout journey includes:
Section 1 – You’re the Driver
Section 2 – Community/Local Area
Section 3 – Highway
Section 4 – Town/Suburb
Section 5 – City
The ALPA DriveAbout journey begins with understanding that ‘You’re the Driver’. You are responsible for keeping your vehicle and passengers safe. Next, the ‘Local Area’ section will teach you how to drive in your local area where there are basic stop signs, give way signs and pedestrian crossings.
For people living in rural or remote areas, the next step is knowing road rules and being aware of the dangers of driving the ‘Highway’. The ‘Town/Suburb’ section will show you how to drive safely in areas with more traffic, street signs and traffic lights.
Finally, you will find yourself in the big city with four-lane intersections and roundabouts. For learner drivers, this can be really scary. The ‘City’ section will help you understand and feel confident about driving on these bigger roads.
At the end of each section, there are 10 multiple choice questions to test your understanding. These test questions are randomised so that repeat tests may have a different set of questions.
ALPA DriveAbout is available in English and eight Indigenous languages: Yolngu Matha (Djambarrpuyngu), Eastern Arrente, Warlpiri, Pitjantjatjara, Murrinh-Patha, Torres Strait Creole, Anindilyakwa, and Kimberley Kriol.
In developing this App, learner driver education in South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory was reviewed and re-structured for delivery in an accelerated learning environment that targets culturally and linguistically diverse participants.
