Isawa Castle was constructed in the early ninth century by Sakanoue No Tamuramaro, Commander-in-Chief Against the Barbarians (Sei-i Taishogun), as headquarters for the imperial court's subjugation of the Tohoku region; the homeland of ancient folk hero Aterui.

You can climb the castle’s reimagined pounded-earth walls and explore the multifloored watchtower, all while taking in the virtually enhanced sights from all angles.
