Braemar Golf Course is conveniently located in southwest Edina in Braemar Park. The park is 500 acres of rolling hills and scenic lakes surrounded by beautiful, untouched oak ridges. There’s a feeling of seclusion amidst its urban setting, only 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis.

Because Edina was named by its original Scottish settlers after Edinburgh, and because golf was originally a Scottish game, a Scotch name was deemed appropriate for the park and golf course. The name “Braemar” was chosen to reflect the village and course so named in Scotland. Construction on the original 18-hole golf course, driving range and par three course began in February 1963, and the first round was played on July 22, 1964. Since then, Braemar has been constantly expanding and changing.

Braemar hosted a PGA event, the 1969 Minnesota Classic – one of only four PGA events hosted on a public golf course that year. Braemar received national attention in 1979 when the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship was held in Edina. State tournaments held at Braemar include the Minnesota Senior Open, Minnesota Public Links Championship and the Minnesota Women’s Amateur Public Links.
