Buoy lets people add context to the world by seeing and adding virtual sticky notes right where they are standing. Simple notes like which bartender makes the best drinks, what this cafe's wi-fi password is, or where the best climbing tree is in this park. Users can comment to contribute to the note or report a note as irrelevant or inappropriate.

Hash-tags enable people to sort whats around them based on what they are looking for such as #streetart, #wifi, or #rockclimbspot. Users can also use hash-tags to make ad-hoc tours or themes from their notes.
