The Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation is an autonomous body set up in 1982 by the Forests & Environment Department, Government of Gujarat.
With a view to promoting forest and wildlife management, and Ecological Research and Ecological Education among citizens, GEER has taken up an initiative of giving information on the cactus plants that have been planted in the Cactus Garden, which is situated near the Statue of Unity in Kevadiya, Gujarat.
The Cactus Garden mobile application has been specially designed to give information like the botanical name, family, origin, longevity, size, interesting facts and uses of each cactus plant present in the garden.
Each cactus plant has a QR Code stuck to it. Visitors can download the application through the Android Play Store or the App Store on an iOS device, scan the QR code on the plant and get relevant details about the plant directly on their smartphones.
The audio facility in the Cactus Garden app is an interesting feature, that enables visitors to listen to an audio file that gives the details about the respective plant, in case they don’t wish to read the write-ups available on the app.
