Calc NYC
What is it about?
In many countries, vendors include the sales tax of an item as part of the listed price. As a result, people in many countries do not have to worry about paying more than what the listed price states. This is not the case in America, however, and presents a problem when tourists come to America, especially to New York City, unaware of the fact that America does not include sales tax in listed prices.

In many countries, vendors include the sales tax of an item as part of the listed price. This is not the case in America, however, and presents a problem when tourists come to America, especially to New York City, unaware of the fact that America does not include sales tax in listed prices.
In addition, many Non-New Yorkers come to study in New York City, and as a result, may not be accustomed to neither the sales tax rules nor the high cost of living in New York City.
There are many sales tax calculators out there, but none of them take into account the various sales tax laws regarding different types of items. For example, while the standard sales tax rate for normal goods and services would be 8.875%, there are different rules for clothing and footwear(such as shirts, pants, and shoes): if the item of clothing or footwear costs less than $110, there is no sales tax added. Otherwise, the item incurs an 8.5% sales tax charge.
Calc NYC takes into account these different nuances in NYC sales tax rules. Calc NYC will therefore help foreigners and college students in NYC, who are already under monetary strain, budget their money better by increasing price transparency.
Calc NYC will also be easy to use, as the user merely has to type in the price of the item, select the category of the item, and then press "calculate." The actual price of the item with sales tax added will immediately pop up!
