This app really a fantastic tool for astronomers and students who would like to know distance. It is really easy to understand and learn Light Year unit. Light Year is a unit of distance.Kids most of the time need to learn distance from earth and we are interested to tell them the real distance in miles. So this is a helping tool to educate people.

The light-year is a unit of length used to express astronomical distances and measures about 9.46 trillion kilometres (9.46 x 1012 km) or 5.88 trillion miles (5.88 x 1012 mi).[note 1] As defined by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), a light-year is the distance that light travels in vacuum in one Julian year (365.25 days).[2] Because it includes the word "year", the term light-year may be misinterpreted as a unit of time.

The speed of light is exactly 299,792,458 m/s. That’s the easy part.As for how long a year is, it actually depends on the year. Mostly because it is a human scale, and it is somewhat arbitrary. There’s quite some debate on how long a year is exactly, as you can see in a quick Google search (for example here). For the sake of this argument let’s take the conclusion posted on that link, which is 365d 5h 48m 59.2s. Assuming a day is exactly 24 hours, an hour is exactly 60 minutes and a minute is exactly 60 seconds, this gives us:
