FEATURES
When opening the app an elegant virtual card introduces itself. Follow the suggestions learning how to play in layouts with up to 600 cards of the app. To start tap the “Play now” button. This run-through can be called up again via the information menu "i". That is where you can find instructions too. After choosing a layout, start to fill free spaces with cards by simply touching them. Each card can be initially rotated a quarter of a turn and then repeatedly rotated in the plane of the layout until you find just the orientation you want.
Four cards can be used to create 256 different patterns called quartets. One of many ways to fill the layout is to simply repeat a group of cards such as a quartet or a combination of several quartets, over the entire play area. Differently oriented cards meet at the edges of neighboring quartets, which leads to an enlargement of the black or white areas or an area of contrast.
By rotating cards anywhere in the layout, the pattern can be rearranged at will. So there are an almost unlimited number of possible cardandcube images can be created on a mobile phone or iPad. A game can be saved at any time and resumed later.
At the bottom left there is a menu with the options a) save a game internally (whenever you have to stop playing and want to resume the game later, b) resume playing an internally saved game, c) save a game as a file on your device, d) to resume a filed or a received game, e) export the image of a game. The internally saved games are shown in 9 thumbnails and can be recognized before opening.
On the lower bar there is a function for simultaneously rotating all cards by 90° individually. By repeatedly activating this button, three other images can be created from one you began with. After the fourth press of the button, the original image is restored.
In cooperative and competitive games, players can distribute a card2 file with a portion of the layout filled with cards along with suggestions for the next steps such as horizontal or vertical mirroring, mirroring with color swapping or making copies to create a larger image with a four-fold rotational symmetry that result in complete filling of the layout. The players send back the resulting files. If they want to compete, they can compare scores (see next paragraph).
Both a time and step counter are located on the right-hand side of the lower bar. The counter starts with the first move. Tapping stops the counter. As soon as a card is touched, the counting of steps and time will continue.
In short: After a few taps, you will get to know the game, then play it, following your skill and intuition. Examples and tips can be found at www.cardandcube.de
