If your child went missing wouldn't you want the world to stop and look for them?
A Child Rescue Alert is only activated by the Police when a child is known to have been abducted or their life is believed to be at immediate risk.
» When do you use a Child Rescue Alert?
»» Child Rescue Alert is intended to be activated by the Police when particular criteria are met:
»»» The child is believed to be under 18 years old;
»»» There is a perception that the child is in imminent danger of serious harm or death;
»»» There is sufficient information available to enable the public to assist police in locating the child.
» Why not issue a Child Rescue Alert for every missing child?
»» When Child Rescue Alert is activated huge numbers of people will very quickly become aware of the endangered child. They need to be motivated sufficiently to keep their eyes open and be prepared to report sightings. We have to ensure that people notice the alerts. This is why there are strict criteria. If alerts are raised too frequently Child Rescue Alert could become ineffective. Many types of publicity appeals are made for other missing children in the UK by police forces, the charity Missing People and through the MissingKids website.
If you have information about a missing child who is not the subject of a Child Rescue Alert, please call or text 116 000, or visit this website -https://www.missingpeople.org.uk/missing-people/sightings-and-giving-information.
Please see http://www.childrescuealert.org.uk/home/page/Faqs for more information as well as the FAQs in the app itself.
Every second counts and your support is vital. By reporting a sighting you could be the person who saves a child’s life. The app also provides access to the latest child safety information.
Developed by the charity, Missing People, in partnership with CEOP, a command of the National Crime Agency and the technology provider, Groupcall.
