自称尔玛，是中国西南的一个古老民族。现在中国官方认定的羌族主要聚居在四川省阿坝藏族羌族自治州东部、绵阳市的北川县、平武县等地。现有人口约30.6万人（2000年）。羌族地区至今仍保留原始宗教，盛行万物有灵，多种信仰的灵物崇拜。

该词典由由魏久乔将电子版使用图像识别软件识别为国际音标，编程将其翻译为羌文，并进行了校对。由陈许旻将其处理为适合词典读入格式，并进行了少量修订。
