This app is a quick and easy tool for self-scoring of your postpartum depression by using Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EDPS).

The EDPS was developed by Scottish health centres in Edinburgh and Livingston to identify women who may have postpartum depression.

Postpartum depression is major depression that occurs after giving birth. Symptoms are present for most of the day and last for at least 2 weeks. Postpartum depression affects an estimated 13-19% of women who give birth.

After giving birth, most women experience transient emotional changes such as anxiety, sleep problems, variable mood, and crying attacks. While these emotional changes usually disappear within 10 days, depressive emotional changes such as sadness, pessimism and despair continue in the mothers who develop postpartum depression. Depressive emotional changes observed in mothers in the postpartum period are important problems for both maternal and infant health.

It can be difficult for the mothers with postpartum depression to attach to their babies and breastfeed. The babies of these mothers can also be adversely affected both physically and mentally. In addition, the duration of depression may be prolonged for years in mothers who are not treated on time.

Screening tests for postpartum depression provide early recognition of patients and referral for treatment. One of these tests is the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EDPS), which is widely used worldwide. Women with a test score of 13 or above should be followed on for the possibility of depression. Women with a test result below 13 may repeat the test according to their emotional state.

If you recently gave a birth, It is very crucial to self-evaluate your EDPS scores and share the results with your medical doctor. The suggested results of calculations are not a substitute for clinical judgment.

Edins is a screening tool that does not diagnose postpartum depression or anxiety.

Edins cannot state that you are having postpartum depression, but it can help you self-monitor yourself and take action if needed.
