Eggcase Hunt

The Great Eggcase Hunt is a Shark Trust citizen science recording project aiming to discover where different species of sharks and skate lay their eggs (which are protected in a toughened ‘eggcase’ or ‘mermaid’s purse’).

Get involved by heading to the beach in search of eggcases and use the app to identify what you’ve found. Report your mermaid’s purses to the global Great Eggcase Hunt; if in the Netherlands, to the Dutch Shark Society’s ‘Grote Eikapsel Jacht’; or, if in Portugal, to the Portuguese ‘APECE‘.

• Step-by-step identification tool for eggcases in Northwest and Southwest Europe
• Recording form with access to GPS location and ability to take and upload photos
• User profile and logbook keeps track of your finds submitted via the app
• Capacity to change between English, Dutch and Portuguese for region/language
