First 5 Minutes
What is it about?
Time is critical. “The First 5 Minutes” is a streamlined pediatric resuscitation app that recognizes that every second counts. The resuscitation of a child is a rare and anxiety provoking experience. Given the variation in weight and size as children grow, healthcare providers rely on a wide variety of non-standardized reference materials to rapidly adjust equipment and drug dosing for each child. The “First 5 Minutes” provides size-appropriate critical information instantly.
Developed by pediatric critical care and emergency medicine specialists from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, “The First 5 Minutes" utilizes the patient’s age or weight to provide the healthcare provider with the right equipment sizes and correct resuscitation medication dose with a single tap.
With one tap, the provider has exact information for:
CPR medications
Dysrhythmia Medications
Anti-epileptic Medications
RSI Medications
Equipment Size
“The First 5 Minutes” is intended for physicians, nurses, EMS providers, Physician Assistants, and others caring for children in emergency or critical care settings. While other resuscitation apps require a number of taps and swipes to get to critical content and waste valuable screen space with non-emergent information, "The First 5 Minutes” provides a one-tap alternative to healthcare provider with the right-sized equipment and the appropriately dosed medications in medical codes.
Future updates will allow the user to select concentrations of medications that match their own formulary so the appropriate volume of the medication dose needed during resuscitation is at the healthcare provider’s fingertips. This app does not require a wi-fi connection to function. This app can be used on hand-held or tablet devices.
This app will advance the health of children by bringing timely accurate information to the hands of healthcare provider during critical resuscitation moments.
