What is it about?

n the United States, each year, more than 100 billion pounds or nearly 40% of food is wasted, while 34 million people, including 9 million children, face hunger. The food waste not only impacts the economy and exacerbates food insecurity, but also causes environmental issues including climate change. The wasted food generates around 10% emissions of the gases responsible for global warming. Food Bridge aims to connect users with extra food and other users who need food. Users can include businesses, such as farms, food banks, grocery stores, or restaurants, as well as individuals eager to contribute or receive food assistance. Food Bridge empowers users to either donate or receive food easily. Donors can list food items along with descriptions, addresses, pick-up times, and contact information. Meanwhile, those in need can browse available food listings and pick up items at their convenience. Through Food Bridge, surplus food finds its way to those who need it most, effectively addressing both food waste and food insecurity issues.
