Why I created Grow
**********

I was inspired to create Grow for multiple reasons. First, I learned that the nutrients in our soil are being depleted, and the produce we buy from the grocery store is less nutritious than it was in the past. Having a home garden is one way to ensure you’re eating high-quality, nutritious food.

I also experienced living in a food desert in rural Colorado for a little over a year, and I came to understand the importance of self-sufficiency and having a garden. When you live in a food desert, you have to travel far to find any food, and healthy food—particularly fresh produce—requires an even longer trip. I would drive an hour and a half to reach a meager Safeway where I would stock up on as much fresh food as possible to last between trips. The accessible food in a food desert is usually highly processed and comes in excessive packaging, which is also a problem in areas without regular trash service.

My life experiences and research led me to want to create a tool to help people like myself, who know nothing about gardening and need basic knowledge of their climate, growing season, and the types of plants that may thrive in their environment so they can empower themselves to live healthier lives. I hope you find the app useful. If you’re a seasoned gardener and have feedback on how to improve the app for others, please reach out to me via the feedback mechanism in the app—I would love to hear from you.

Happy gardening!
