App Store Description

Hey Granny! is an application to convert speech to text for the hard of hearing in a conversational environment.

You can network multiple Macs, iPhones and iPads together and turn on dictation. Everything you say will be displayed on their iPad or iPhone to they can read what you are saying. Alternatively connect your iOS device to a smart TV via Airplay and allow many people to see the conversation on your TV set.

You will be asked to type in your name so that your name can be prefixed in bold onto the text you have spoken.

Press the "Language" button to choose the language to dictate in.

If you are running Hey Granny! on only one device then don't press the “Connect to other devices” button at the bottom right of the screen and your speech will only show on your one device.

If you want to network multiple devices together, you need to choose someone to host the conversation. Everyone should press the “Connect to other devices” button and one person should press the “I am hosting” button. Everyone else should press the “Join host” button.

Once you have connected to each other’s devices, the top buttons will change to “Start Listening” and “Send”. “Start Listening” will turn on dictation and anything you say will be converted to text and sent to the other participants. If you are not networking, the text will be displayed in the scrolling text view at the bottom of the screen to be read.

If you just want to type rather than dictate, then type in the top text box and press "Send" to send the text to the other networked devices.

If you have a smart TV that supports AirPlay, or an AppleTV, you can connect one of the devices to the TV and the conversation will be displayed in large text on the TV for those who are hard of hearing. This is useful if they do not have an iOS device to look at or you only have one iOS device.

Use the Larger and Smaller buttons at the bottom of the text view to increase and decrease the font size so that it can be read more easily.

There is also a Mac version that will run on the latest MacOS system.
