The app for comparing your walks with famous hikes
Hike At Home
This is a totally different type of hiking app, since it helps you to compare your neighborhood walks with famous trails. It uses your iPhone's built-in pedometer along with the Health app to track how far you've walked during the day, showing that progress along famous voyages like the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail.
What is it about?
Through Hike At Home, you can compare the steps you walk throughout the day with the paths thousands have enjoyed in the great outdoors. Using your iPhone's built-in pedometer and the Health app, Hike At Home keeps track of how far you've walked and then displays that as if you were following one of the three greatest hiking trails in the United States. Choose from the Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail, or the Continental Divide Trail, and see how far your daily walks get you along those famous paths. It shows famous landmarks along the trail, so you can see how long it would take you to get from one spot to another.
For those who...
- Want to translate their daily walking into real-world hiking trips
- Love the idea of traveling the greatest trails in the country, but don't have the time
Not for those who...
- Would rather hike the famous trails in person than pretend
- Don't do much walking
Why we love it
This is a unique app in that it allows you to go hiking without going hiking. Instead, it takes the walking you do everyday and translates it into following one of the greatest hiking paths in the United States. You can keep an eye on how far you've traversed along one of these amazing trails, without ever leaving your home or neighborhood. It even includes a Today widget to track your progress.
App Store Description
Hike At Home is an app to track your walking/hiking progress along famous trails like the Pacific Crest Trail, Appalachian Trail, and Continental Divide Trail.
Hike At Home uses an iPhone's built in pedometer, along with the Health app, to track how far you've walked during the day. It then shows that progress along famous landmarks on the trail.
A today widget is available so you can quickly see how far you've walked each day and how far it is to the next trail landmark.
Hike At Home contains landmarks for the entire Pacific Crest Trail and will soon have information on the United States' two other great National Scenic Trails.
If you have a device without a built in pedometer (iPhone 5 or earlier) you can still use Hike At Home! You can manually enter walking/running data into the Health app or utilize other apps that write to the Health app.
