The ensuing year, a concept was developed to create an organization that would honor the name and pursue the educational, research and philosophical teachings of the founder of the training program, Edward C. Hinds, DDS, MD.

The purpose of this organization would be to support and perpetuate the ideals of teaching, research, public service, and the private practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery; to promote continued development and expansion of the specialty through science and education, and to elevate the professional and ethical standards of the specialty and its members
