In 1888, when Hawai‘i was still a monarchy, King Kalakaua commissioned a magazine under royal charter to be Hawai‘i’s ambassador to the world

Honolulu Mag

by PacificBasin Communications, LLC

What is it about?

In 1888, when Hawai‘i was still a monarchy, King Kalakaua commissioned a magazine under royal charter to be Hawai‘i’s ambassador to the world. That magazine was Paradise of the Pacific. In 1966, Paradise of the Pacific became HONOLULU Magazine and shifted focus dramatically. No longer would it just promote local business and tourism to the United States. It became a magazine by and for the people of the Islands. Today, HONOLULU is among the handful of publications in the U.S. that have chronicled the events of an entire century. It is, in fact, the longest established magazine west of the Mississippi and the only monthly city magazine in the state of Hawai‘i….and it continues today. Every month Honolulu residents rely on HONOLULU magazine for revealing profiles, discerning dining and cultural guides, in-depth features, informed commentary and authoritative Best-of lists.
