iBobbly is Australia’s first suicide prevention app for young Indigenous Australians (aged 15 years and over) that delivers therapy in a culturally relevant way.
Based on psychological therapies (eg. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) that help to reduce suicidal thoughts, iBobbly draws strongly on Indigenous metaphors, images and stories from Aboriginal artists and performers.
The app was originally developed in collaboration between Black Dog Institute and ALIVE & Kicking Goals! in the Kimberley as part of a research trial that was found to have benefits for individuals and whole communities.
Following on from this trial, the decision was taken to release the app for public use. Partnerships were extended to include other Indigenous members and organisations within the community across NSW & Qld to facilitate changes to the app to support this broader stakeholder community.
Thanks to funding provided by the Australian Government Department of Health and the NSW Mental Health Commission, this app is now available for those people who need it the most.
