The app ‘Revealing your inner Designer’ is an educational tool to support first year university students in art, design and architecture-related subjects transitioning into university. It consists of open-ended questions delivered one each day over thirty days. Students are required to record their answers in their private notebook and reflect upon them. The questions are aimed at revealing connections underlying students’ understanding of their interests, preferences, likes, dislikes, values, beliefs, personalities, needs and musings with who they may be and become as a unique and multi-layered creative person and practitioner.
The aim of the app is to assist students in a process of critical self-reflection on their life histories and unique way-of-being for the purpose of revealing meaning and creating connections in students understanding of self as designer. These insights and understandings may later assist them with providing deeper content and connections in their tertiary studio subjects where independent design thinking and understanding is paramount in learning how to become and be a unique designer.
