The IVA-PE-N Continuous Performance Test (CPT) is a seven to twelve minute test of visual and auditory attention and impulse control, designed primarily to help health professionals in their evaluation of the various symptoms of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) for ages 4 to 8. The IVA-PE-N can also be used to help assess attention and cognitive problems related to the effects of head injuries, concussions, sleep disorders, depression, anxiety, learning disabilities, and various other medical problems.

Continuous performance tests are psychological tests that have been used extensively used in research to evaluate the effects of treatments and interventions intended to improve attention and self-control. The IVA-PE-N was created to provide examiners with a quick and easy assessment instrument for clinical evaluation purposes. Researchers have recently found that over half of the individuals who truly have ADHD are never properly diagnosed and, consequently, receive no help or treatment for their problems.

The use of the IVA-PE-N requires that it be administered in accordance with the specified test guidelines under the supervision of a licensed health care professional who is qualified to diagnose ADHD. The test by itself is not to be used as a stand-alone instrument in making a diagnosis, but provides data that can be helpful to clinicians as part of their comprehensive evaluation.
