The Journey to the Beginnings educational adventure puzzle game allows players to discover the everyday life of four prehistoric communities along the River Danube.
Although the story is fictional, the artistic interpretation of everyday life is based on real archeological research done at four prehistoric sites: Százhalombatta in Hungary, Vučedol in Croatia, Lepenski Vir in Serbia, and Gârla Mare in Romania. From these sites, many real heritage objects that are kept in modern museums have been included in the game. Established scientific knowledge about society, everyday life, technology, language, and culture have also been introduced into the game, allowing players to learn seamlessly about our ancestors in a fun and interactive way.
The game features original visual artwork and authentic music made by reconstructing prehistoric instruments. The gameplay resembles graphical point-and-click adventures from the 1990s, mixing 2D illustration, 3D animation, audio, and video sequences. The game features 6 levels. In addition to the main storyline, there are also 8 short minigame puzzles. The game is playable in 5 languages: English, Hungarian, Croatian, Serbian, and Romanian.
This game is a 2018-2019 coproduction between Novena d.o.o. (Zagreb, Croatia) and Pro Progressione (Budapest, Hungary) and was produced during the Journey to the Beginnings project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. Partners on the Creative Europe project were KÖME (Hungary), University of Southampton (UK), Iron Gates Regional Museum (Romania), Pro Progressione (Hungary), Matrica Múzeum Régészeti Park (Hungary), Novena d.o.o. (Croatia), Vučedol Culture Museum (Croatia), Museum of Lepenski Vir (Serbia).
Travel back in time, discover the prehistoric peoples of the Danube and experience the unique virtual archaeology programme!
