What is it about?
The Jump In An Empty Space application is made for our collaborative art project with hip hop and break dancers. We find the poses that these performers create with their bodys very interesting. They have an unnatural look to them and go against gravity making them seem impossible. We see this as a metaphor for the reversal of the social dynamic. At the same time their dancing practice is very similar to what artists do, to create something abstract, perfect, believable but yet seemingly impossible to reach. We first present our 3D sculptures with 4 dancers in a hip hop battle environment. Users find themselves in the middle of the battle next to the sculptures when they scan the target image.

This project also came from the concept of different physical perspectives. For example, a dancer’s eyes are on the ground when they perform many of these movements. This gives them a very different perspective on the world and one that most people will never experience. Users can find a button in the application that has been designed to simulate the vision of Nicolas Faubert, one of the dancers, who has a visual impairment. The filter recreates his vision, as he describes it, to share the way he sees the world.
