The KickEbolaOut (KEO) Mobile Application, developed by IFMSA, SLeMSA and CRIMEDIM, is an educational program intended to provide health care students with advanced knowledge of Ebola virus disease (EVD).
This includes prevention, transmission, protection, awareness and treatment in order to enhance the responsiveness of communities to current and future Ebola outbreaks worldwide.
Students will have the opportunity to go through a knowledge bank based on clinical information, public health and protection topics related to EVD and its recent outbreak in West Africa.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of KEO Mobile Application students will be able to:
● Understand the background of the Ebola outbreak and relevant public health, social and economic circumstances that brought to the outbreak
● Recognize different clinical presentations and stages of EVD
● Describe the possible ways of management of the EVD, methods of protection and contact tracing

Evaluation of Knowledge and Satisfaction
● Pre-survey: to assess awareness about the Ebola outbreak, motivation to improve knowledge of it and interest in participating in the response as part of the community outreach teams.
● Pre-test: to assess Ebola knowledge, including clinical and public health, before users use the Knowledge section of the KEO Application.
● Formative tests: after each of the sections (PH, Clinical, Protection, Community outreach), a short survey about the knowledge gain as a requirement for entering the next section or resource.
● Post-test: to assess knowledge Ebola knowledge, including clinical and public health, protection and community outreach methodology after users use the Knowledge section of the KEO Application.
● Post-survey: survey intended to assess satisfaction and utility of knowledge students gained through using the KEO Application
● KEO World Map: with GPS locations and number of people in communities reached by students

Academic accreditation by CRIMEDIM and Università del Piemonte Orientale.

Organizations involved
SLeMSA - Sierra Leone Medical Students Association - is a national association of medical students from Sierra Leone. It gathers medical students that work on promotion of health and responding to the needs of the society. It pursues its aims and objectives without any political, religious, social, racial, gender or any other discrimination. SLeMSA is a full member of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) which is a nongovernmental organization representing medical students worldwide. IFMSA was founded in 1951, and currently maintains 123 National Member Organizations from 117 countries across six continents. IFMSA has official and long-lasting collaboration with WHO, WMA and many other agencies and institutions.

CRIMEDIM -Research Center in Emergency and Disaster Medicine- is a research center part of Università del Piemonte Orientale, which aims to promote and develop research and training in emergency and disaster medicine with particular attention to the application of new information technologies in this context. Today it is a national and international academic reference on the topics of disasters and humanitarian crisis, carrying out research, consulting and training. Professors, young researchers and engineers from different academic activities are actively involved in innovative scientific research in various fields of disaster medicine and humanitarian health.
