App Store Description

“KNOW-Climate Change” mobile application aims to present an innovative interactive tool for Climate Change in the current context for the educational community and students in Africa and around the world.
This mobile application is designed to build their capacities on Climate Change basic principles, adaption, and mitigation. Its content emphasizes the role of education and the learning process in developing a climate neutral culture. It also builds students’ knowledge and skills in Climate Change, and it enables them to analyse and monitor climate change risks, vulnerabilities, and capacities in their communities, to better protect themselves, and to share their informed views to influence climate change governance and planning.
Creating knowledge and understanding through science equips us to find solutions to today’s acute economic, social, and environmental challenges and to achieving sustainable development and greener societies. Linking science to society, public understanding of science and the participation of citizens in science are essential to creating societies where people have the necessary knowledge to make professional, personal, and political choices, and to participate in the stimulating world of discovery.
The pack was the product of a joint effort between UNESCO, UNECA-ACPC, UNEP, UNDRR, UNITAR-UN CC Learn and AUC. We hope you will find the content both useful and enjoyable in the teaching and learning process.
Levels
There are five levels with twenty questions per level.
Responding to questions
The questions either has either multiple choice answers to select from, or True or False options. The player will move to the next question only when the correct answer is selected, that means all levels will be automatically unlocked when he/she gets a good score. It uses different sounds or voice prompts to tell the player whether the answer selected is correct or wrong. There may also be instances when extra information would be given for educational purposes.
What the questions entail
The questions cover five main key understandings on Climate Change to help students learn about:
The concept of Climate change, what causes it to occur, human activities which contribute to accelerated environmental change,
The variety of impacts of climate change on communities, the environment, ecosystems, economies, etc., as well as projections of the impact climate change will have on future activities, animals, ecosystems and communities
The concept of Climate Change Adaptation, why it is so crucial, how impacts of climate change impacts can be mitigated to create safe and sustainable communities.
The various actions and activities that Young People can undertake to contribute towards combatting climate change, reducing its impacts, increasing awareness and enhancing resilience in their communities and across the globe
Introduction to international agreements and global commitments related to Climate Change such as the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Language
The application is currently in English, French and Portugal. Other languages will be available soon.
In conclusion
“KNOW-Climate Change” mobile application is free to use forever. Once installed, access it without the internet.
