App Store Description

Are you interested in fluid dynamic? This application solves the flow around an airfoil with aid of analytical methods. If you are a teacher or a student at collage this application can help you learn and understand some basic aerodynamics.

This application demonstrates the Kutta-Joukowski transformation and shows the streamlines around the airfoil and the pressure-distribution along the x-axis. The angle of attack, thickness and camber can easily be changed by touching the screen. By dragging your finger along the horizontal axis you will change the thickness of the airfoil. By dragging your finger along the vertical axis to the left of the airfoil you change the camber of the the airfoil, and by dragging to the right you will change the angle of attack. The pressure distribution along the x-axis is directly updated and when you release your finger the velocity field around the airfoil will be updated.

The Kutta-Joukowski theorem is a fundamental theorem of aerodynamics. It is named after the German Martin Wilhelm Kutta and the Russian Nikolai Zhukovsky (or Joukowski) who first developed its key ideas in the early 20th century. The theorem relates the lift generated by a right cylinder to the speed of the cylinder through the fluid, the density of the fluid, and the circulation.
